Information and Data Governance (ICIP and Indigenous Data) Values Statement

 

Pollination Foundation’s mission is to put humanity at the heart of climate and nature solutions. We value the trust placed in us by our partners and we are committed to respecting the rights of all people in the way that we collect, use, store and share information shared with us. This includes Indigenous Intellectual and Cultural Property (ICIP), Indigenous Data, and personal or sensitive information. 

We align our approach with the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the ILO Convention No. 169, the concept of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) as expressed under Article 18 of the UNDRIP and the CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance. These frameworks guide our practices and inform how we make good on our commitment to respecting the rights of all of our partners to self-determination and sovereignty over their knowledge and data. 

Our approach to information sharing and protection is underpinned by the following values: 

  • Respect: Honouring the ownership and significance of ICIP and personal information. 
  • Equity: Partnering in ways that promote fairness and uphold the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. 
  • Trust: Building and maintaining relationships founded on confidentiality and mutual respect. 
  • Transparency: Being clear about how we handle, use and protect information. 

Pollination Foundation also complies with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)  and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), which set out how we lawfully manage personal and sensitive information. Beyond compliance, we act with integrity, recognising the trust placed in us by those who share their knowledge, stories, and insights. 

We believe in co-creating solutions through collaboration, nurturing high-trust relationships, and amplifying Indigenous and local voices. We take great care to ensure that information entrusted to us is used responsibly and only in ways that align with our shared values and commitments.
