This summary report explores the insurance challenges faced by organisations delivering nature-based solutions, particularly community-led and Indigenous-led conservation initiatives. Developed by BHP Foundation and Pollination, the report examines how rising insurance costs, limited availability of fit-for-purpose products, data gaps, and the difficulty of valuing nature can become barriers to scaling environmental resilience work. Drawing on stakeholder surveys, interviews and Australian case studies — including cultural burning, nature-derived revenue, and conservation assets — it identifies practical pathways for further exploration, from better recognition of risk mitigation activities to innovative insurance products, pooled sector approaches and improved data and valuation frameworks.
